General Tips

Keeping Your Pet Comfortable Outdoors

No matter what climate you currently find yourself in, you’ll always want to be sure that your family pet is comfortable while outdoors. Whether in the blazing heat of the sunshine or on a cold winter day, there are specific ways to make your pet as comfortable as possible when you both are enjoying time outside together. The following will provide some helpful tips to keep your dog or cat comfortable while spending time in the great outdoors!

Keep Your Dog or Cat Well Hydrated

It is extremely important to ensure dogs and cats have enough to drink at all times, but especially when they are outside playing or running around. Even when it is cold outside, keeping your pet well hydrated is crucial to his/her health. When a dog and cat has enough water, they will simply be healthier and happier all around. If you are taking a long hike or exercising with your best friend, make sure to think about your pet’s health prior to heading out the door. Be sure to bring some water and snacks on the journey with you for your pet to enjoy.

Layer Your Pets with Pet Wear If Possible

Some pets are hesitant to wear doggy jackets or cat sweaters; however, if they are amenable to it, it never hurts to layer them up with some pet wear. These items will keep them warm and dry while making them as comfortable as possible in the outdoors. If you are on a tight budget and don’t want to spend a fortune on pet clothing, look for pet wear on sale at local pet shops, online pet retailers and simply buy just a few of the necessity pet clothing items for your dog or cat.

Going For a Dog Walk

When heading out to play with your pet outdoors or going on a trail hike with your dog, make sure that you keep their individual abilities in mind. If they can only do so much in the way of walking outdoors, make sure that you do not push them too much as this can be detrimental to their health and well-being. Take it slow when playing outdoors with older pets and those which have certain disabilities that may make it difficult for them to walk too far. You of course want your pet to get enough exercise, but be sure that you don’t wear them out too much while doing so. Over exertion is one of the leading causes of dehydration in pets today, so you will want to be careful to keep your furry friend as healthy as possible!
Most pets love to get outside and enjoy the fresh air while getting exercise all at the same time. In order for your pet to continue to enjoy the outdoors safely and comfortably, you should keep the previously mentioned tips in mind. Doing so will make outside time fun for both you and your beloved pets!
